The San Miguel is On Fire!

September 1, 2015

As the stream flow has receded, the San Migul River has been fishing great. Rainbows are plenitful in the water from Caddis Flat to below the Norwood Bridge. On the muddy water days fish larger Stone Fly imitations like Pat's Rubber Legs and on clear water days fish a dry droppper rig with a Stimulator or Bug Meister on top and dropping a #18 Bead Head fly about 2' below.

The river is low so ask yourself "Where can fish be with the water at 150cfs? Use your polarized sunglasses to peer thru the water to find those portions of the river where the depth is deeper and the water is moving more slowly. Cast your Top Fly or stike indicator to the top of these pools and strive thru high sticking and mending consistently to achieve a realistic drift. Remember, the takes will be subtle so keep your eyes attentive and don't expect to "feel a fish bite."
