Ski Lessons: Telluride Ski & Snowboard School

The Telluride Ski Resort and the Telluride Ski School provide a fun, positive and safe structure for Pancho’s ski and snowboard lessons.

"Thanks for making this our best ski holiday ever. I am still pumped up about Parker's big breakthrough. We look forward to skiing with you again."
– Justin Kelly, Minneapolis, Minnesota

WHY

During the ski season, Pancho teaches private ski and snowboard lessons for the Telluride Ski School. Pancho’s first year instructing for the Telluride Ski Resort Ski School was in 1986 and his passion for teaching skiing and snowboarding has only increased throughout his lifetime. Pancho is very patient and he is certified to teach multiple snow sports thru the Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors.

HOW

The Rider-Board Performance Model is Pancho’s primary teaching tool. This skiing model explains how a skier with a strong stance should move to get performance from his skis. Biomechanics is how we align our skeleton to move athletically. Skiers with good posture control pressure and make carving and skidding moves while our skis react by flexing, carving and skidding.

"When we retired to Ridgway, one goal was to improve our mogul skiing, then best described as marginal. After some trial and error we found Pancho, whom we have come to know as a superb instructor. Articulate and personable, he teaches a smooth and graceful style of skiing. He has a large repertoire of useful, pertinent exercises and a skillful knack of explaining the how and the why of them. He also has an extensive knowledge of Telluride’s terrain—where the best snows are when. We have had much fun with his taking us where we might not have dared on our own. We highly recommend him."

WHAT

Pancho is certified to teach multiple snow sports thru the Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors. Pancho’s Professional Ski Instructors of America certifications are:

  • Level III (Full Certification) Alpine Skiing
  • Level III (Full Certification) Telemark Skiing
  • Level II Alpine Park Pipe
  • Level I Snowboard

Pancho has vast experience in alpine skiing and he regularly skis with all levels of alpine skiers in bumps, park, powder and race. Pancho also teaches alpine skiing to beginners and children.

Telemark skiing has always been a big deal in Telluride and Pancho and the Telluride Ski School have been teaching telemark skiing for over 25 years. Telemark skiing is a great way to improve your skiing thru “lateral learning.” Since our heel is not fixed in place, as with alpine skis, telemark skiing offers a whole new set of balancing challenges.

Pancho loves jibbing in the Terrain Park and teaching basic airs, grabs and jumping. Pancho also teaches beginner “fun box” and rail technique as well as skiing the Half Pipe.
